  • The iPad is a gaming console

    April 26th, 2010

    Chopper 2

    Scrabble

In this article I speculated that the iPad might be a gaming console in disguise. It wasn’t immediately clear to me that this was true on launch day, but slowly the games have been emerging. The important point, you can use the iPhone and iPod Touch as a controller. The only question remaining is whether there will be a way to output the display from the iPad to an HDTV.

The obvious downside to this is cost, but since you’re going to have an iPod Touch or iPhone anyways (at least if you’re one of my friends), this is just an added use. The advantage to this kind of system is that it’s modular, and you’re already carrying the controller around in your pocket.

UPDATE: Here it is. The iPad connected to an HDTV while simultaneously being controlled by an iPhone. All of a sudden Apple is in the console business.

  • The Solar Film

    April 22nd, 2009

    The Solar Film

The Solar Film was produced by the famous designer Saul Bass and commissioned by Robert Redford. I feel a bit sad seeing how little progress has been made in the last 30 years, but we have to realize that solar energy is anything but simple. Even the best solar cells are incredibly inefficient. For solar to be a viable replacement we will need a lot of innovation.

As a side note, the production house for this film, Pyramid, is the same for the film Powers of Ten . Does anybody know more about Pyramid, like where to find their films? We need some modern-day equivalents to these films.

  • Everything is Terrible

    April 2nd, 2009

I just ran across what might be the best comedy blog ever. Everything is Terrible is a collection of bizarre 80s and 90s tv ads, comedy ruitines, and b movies. No doubt these are the kind of videos that inspire Tim and Eric.

  • Look Around You

    March 14th, 2009

Look Around You is a short British comedy show that parodies 1970s science education videos. There are at least a dozen available in full on youtube right now. Dave, do you think we could do something like this for the next K9000 video?

This is the future, and it might not be that far off. We won’t have the brain interface, but we will have the processing power (a current super computer is probably already enough) and the emersive technology to make this happen in the next 5 years. The brain interface is probably 20 years or more off. That’s not too long, but I want one now.

  • Typealyzer - INTJ

    February 23rd, 2009

Brain Activity My brain activity while writing on this blog

Adam just posted about a website called Typealyzer that attempts to figure out your personality type by reading the contents of your blog. It reported that I am INTJ (Introverted iNtuitive Thinking Judging), or “the Scientists.” From Typealyzer:

“The long-range thinking and individualistic type. They are especially good at looking at almost anything and figuring out a way of improving it - often with a highly creative and imaginative touch. They are intellectually curious and daring, but might be physically hesitant to try new things.

The Scientists enjoy theoretical work that allows them to use their strong minds and bold creativity. Since they tend to be so abstract and theoretical in their communication they often have a problem communicating their visions to other people and need to learn patience and use concrete examples. Since they are extremely good at concentrating they often have no trouble working alone.”

It’s pretty accurate for me. It’s actually a little scary. And, I did a google search that turned up this INTJ Profile .

I ran some of my friends’ sites through and it was pretty hit or miss. It only reads the page you send it to, so it will have a wide range of accuracy. Give it a try and let me know your results.

Update: After posting this I ran the test again and it changed to INTP (replacing Judging with Perceiving).
